Over 680 new jobs have been created in Derbyshire during the
past year with the help of an organisation which provides advice and
support to firms through the Business Link Start-up Service.
During the last financial year, Derbyshire Enterprise Agency (DEA)
helped almost 500 new businesses - a significant achievement in the
current economic climate according to DEA Chairman John Foxcroft.
“It’s encouraging to see there are still so many entrepreneurs in the
County prepared to set up on their own and we’re delighted to have been
able to help them,” he explained.
“Starting up in business can be daunting at the best of times but in
the teeth of a recession receiving expert help and advice is more
important than ever.”
A wholly owned subsidiary of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber
of Commerce, DEA has more than 25 years experience of helping new
businesses to succeed.
The organisation now delivers start-up services in the County on
behalf of Business Link and help is delivered to both newly-formed
companies and individuals thinking of becoming self-employed.
The range of services offered includes providing essential
information and one-to-one guidance as well as organising business
training and development workshops. “Working alongside Business Link,
the aim is to help these fledgling businesses survive and grow –
providing a platform for them to make a significant contribution to
Derbyshire’s economy,” said Dr Foxcroft.
“In addition to the initial start-up service, around 480
businesses received further mentoring support from our team of
experienced advisers based at the Brian Clough Business Centre in Derby.
“We’ve established a range of access points across the county from
Swadlincote to Bakewell, Buxton, and Glossop and we will continue to
work with a range of partners to ensure would–be entrepreneurs get the
best possible advice,” he added.
